SBI CBO Selection Process

SBI Circle Based Officer recruitment follows a 3-phase process: Online Test, Screening, and Interview. Each phase evaluates candidates' abilities thoroughly.

1. Online Test

The online exam features Objective Tests (120 marks) followed immediately by Descriptive Test (50 marks). Candidates type responses directly on computer.

Online Objective Exam - 2-hour test with 4 sections (120 marks total), each having separate time limits:

Topic Questions Duration
English Language 30 30 Minutes
Banking Knowledge 40 40 Minutes
General Awareness/Economy 30 30 Minutes
Computer Aptitude 20 20 Minutes
Total 120 2 Hours

Descriptive Test - 30-minute English proficiency exam with Letter Writing & Essay (2 questions, 50 marks total):

Merit & Screening: Circle/Category-wise merit list prepared from Online Test aggregate scores (no sectional cutoffs). Top 3x vacancies shortlisted for Screening, subject to minimum qualifying score.

No Negative Marking: Zero penalty for wrong answers in Objective Tests.

2. Screening

Shortlisted candidates' online applications and documents undergo review by the Screening Committee to verify eligibility and experience criteria.

The committee compares candidates' submitted job profiles (certified by current/previous employers) against SBI Scale-I Generalist Officer requirements. Non-matching profiles lead to rejection - Bank's decision is final.

Candidates meeting experience standards as determined by the committee proceed to the Interview phase.

3. Interview / Viva Voce

The Interview/Viva Voce phase carries 50 marks weightage and evaluates candidates' communication skills, banking knowledge, personality, and suitability for Circle Based Officer roles. SBI sets minimum qualifying marks which candidates must achieve to proceed to final merit list preparation. This face-to-face assessment determines readiness for Scale-I officer responsibilities across various SBI circles.

4. Final Selection

Candidates must qualify both Online Test (Objective + Descriptive) and Interview phases separately. Marks from Online Test (170 total) and Interview (50 marks) combine to form final merit list through normalized 75:25 weightage ratio.

  • Online Test marks (out of 170) converted to 75 marks
  • Interview scores (out of 50) converted to 25 marks

Circle-wise, category-wise merit lists prepared from total 100 marks. Top-ranked candidates selected strictly per vacancy distribution across SBI circles. (118 words)
