SBI CBO Selection Process

The recruitment process for the SBI Circle Based Officer (CBO) 2025 is structured into three distinct stages: Online Examination, Screening, and Interview. These phases are crafted to thoroughly evaluate the candidates’ qualifications, aptitude, and overall suitability for the role.

1. Online Test/Examination

The online test includes both objective and descriptive parts. It tests English, Banking, General Awareness, and Computer Aptitude. The descriptive section evaluates English writing skills. No negative marking applies. Separate timing is given for each section.

(i) Objective Test Structure: This test spans 2 hours and is divided into four sections, collectively carrying a total of 120 marks. Each section comes with a specific time limit assigned to it.

(ii) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test lasts for 30 minutes and assesses English language skills through two questions: one on letter writing and one on essay writing, totaling 50 marks. No sectional qualifying marks will be enforced, but an overall minimum qualifying score will be set by the Bank.

#Penalty for Wrong Answers:
There will be no penalty for incorrect answers in the Objective Tests. Sectional marks will not be maintained for the Online Examination.

2. Screening Test

After candidates successfully qualify in the online examination, their online application and documents will be reviewed by the Screening Committee. The Committee, appointed by the Bank, will assess whether the candidates meet the required eligibility criteria, particularly in terms of professional experience.

The candidates' submitted job profiles, certified by their current or previous employers, will be compared with the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist Officer of the State Bank of India. If the job profile is not substantially aligned with the Scale-I Generalist Officer’s role, the candidate’s application will be rejected. The Bank reserves the right to determine the necessary parameters for matching job profiles, and its decision will be final and binding. No correspondence or representation will be entertained in this regard.

A merit list will be created on a Circle-wise and Category-wise basis, considering the aggregate marks scored in the online test by candidates who meet the experience criteria. Up to three times the number of vacancies (subject to the availability of qualified candidates) will be invited for an interview, starting from the top of the merit list for each Circle and Category. Please note that merely qualifying in the online examination does not guarantee an interview call.

3. Interview

The interview will carry a total of 50 marks. To be eligible for final selection, candidates must achieve the minimum qualifying marks in the interview. These minimum marks will be determined by the Bank.

4. Final Selection

To be eligible for final selection, candidates must qualify separately in both the Online Test and Interview.

The final merit list will be based on the combined scores from the Online Test (Objective and Descriptive) and the Interview.

The marks will be normalized with the following weightage:

1. Online Test marks (out of 170) will be converted to 75 marks.

2. Interview marks (out of 50) will be converted to 25 marks.

The final merit list is prepared Circle-wise and Category-wise by aggregating the converted marks from both the Online Test and the Interview, totaling out of 100.

Candidates will be selected from the top-ranked candidates in the merit list

5. Local Language Proficiency Test:

Candidates applying for vacancies in a specific Circle must demonstrate proficiency (reading, writing, and understanding) in the local language of that Circle. This language proficiency test will be conducted for provisionally selected candidates after the Online Test, Screening, and Interview. Failure to pass this test will result in non-appointment. However, candidates who have studied the specified local language as one of their subjects in Class 10 or 12 will be exempt from the test. Final selection is contingent upon passing the language test, where applicable.

Result Publication:

The results of candidates called for the Interview, along with the Final Result, will be published on the Bank’s official website.
