India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Notification
The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has announced GDS Recruitment 2026 for BPM, ABPM, and Dak Sevak posts. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official GDS portal from 31 January to 16 February 2026.

India Post GDS Recruitment Details
Post Names: Recruitment is for three Gramin Dak Sevak categories—Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.
No. of Posts: Approx. 28,000+ vacancies across various Postal Circles and Divisions. Division-wise details are available in Annexure-I of the official notification and on the GDS Online Engagement Portal.
Organization: Conducted by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board with basic computer knowledge.
Service Conditions: GDS are not regular Central Government employees. Engagement is governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020. They work 4–5 hours per day and can serve up to 65 years of age.
Emoluments: GDS receive Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) with an annual 3% increase. BPM: ₹12,000–₹29,380; ABPM & Dak Sevak: ₹10,000–₹24,470. Benefits include Dearness Allowance, Gratuity, and Service Discharge Benefit Scheme.

Eligibility Criteria for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 10th Standard (Secondary School Examination) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized board. They should have studied the local language up to 10th Standard. Special provisions apply for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Sikkim.
Other Requirements: Candidates should have basic computer knowledge and be able to cycle. They must have adequate means of livelihood apart from the TRCA and allowances provided by the Government.

Reservation Policy for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Reservation is provided for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD categories in accordance with Government of India guidelines. Only candidates with benchmark physical disabilities will be considered under the PwBD category and are eligible for age relaxation and reservation. Permissible disabilities include Low Vision (LV), Deaf and Hard of Hearing, One Arm, One Leg, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victim, Both Legs (for Dak Sevak posts only), Spinal Infirmity/Spinal Deformity without associated neurological dysfunction, Specific Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, and Multiple Disabilities.
Role of Various Posts for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Branch Postmaster (BPM): BPMs oversee the daily operations of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank. Their duties include mail conveyance and delivery, marketing and promotion of postal products and services, and overall office management. Selected candidates must provide accommodation for the Branch Post Office and reside in the post village before engagement.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): ABPMs assist BPMs in postal operations, including sale of stamps and stationery, doorstep mail delivery, IPPB transactions, and promotion of postal services. ABPMs must reside within the delivery area of their assigned Post Office.
Dak Sevak: Dak Sevaks are responsible for mail delivery and postal services in Departmental Offices, Sub Post Offices, Head Post Offices, and Railway Mail Service offices. Their work includes selling stamps, conducting IPPB transactions, and assisting in the smooth functioning of the Post Office. They must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of their assigned Post Office.

Applicants must submit their applications online only through the official GDS Online Engagement Portal. First-time candidates should click on “Candidate Login/Register” and select “New Candidate Registration.” Enter a valid mobile number and email ID, which will be verified through OTP. Only one registration is allowed per mobile number and email ID. After registration, a registration number and temporary password will be sent to the registered mobile, which can be changed after the first login. Once logged in, click the “Apply Online” link under the “Active Notification” tab and fill in all personal and educational details exactly as mentioned in the 10th class marksheet, including Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Father’s/Guardian’s name, Mother’s name, Community, Board details, preferred Division, and Post category. Upload a recent photograph (JPG/JPEG format, 30–100 KB, 320×400 pixels) and signature (JPG/JPEG format, 20–100 KB, 300×120 pixels). Important Instructions for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Each candidate is allowed only one registration. Multiple or duplicate applications are strictly prohibited and will lead to cancellation of candidature. Candidates need to upload only a recent photograph and signature; no other documents are required. Applications with unclear or illegible photographs/signatures will be rejected. All details must match exactly with the SSC (Class 10th) marksheet.
A correction/edit window will be available from 18 February to 19 February 2026, allowing candidates to modify registration or application details. Selection Process for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Candidates will be selected based on a system-generated merit list. The merit list is prepared using the marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (10th Standard), converted into a percentage accurate to four decimal places. For candidates with grades instead of marks, the percentage will be calculated by applying a multiplication factor of 9.5.
In the event of a tie between candidates, selection priority will be given first to older candidates by date of birth. If the tie persists, category-wise preference will be applied in the following order: ST Trans-woman, ST Female, SC Trans-woman, SC Female, OBC Trans-woman, OBC Female, EWS Trans-woman, EWS Female, UR Trans-woman, UR Female, ST Trans-male, ST Male, SC Trans-male, SC Male, OBC Trans-male, OBC Male, EWS Trans-male, EWS Male, UR Trans-male, UR Male.
Document Verification Process for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
Shortlisted candidates must report to the office of the designated authority (Divisional/Unit Head) for physical verification of documents within 15 days from the date of shortlisting. Candidates are required to bring original documents, including the 10th Standard marksheet, identity proof, caste certificate (if applicable), PwBD certificate (if applicable), EWS certificate (if applicable), transgender certificate (if applicable), date of birth proof, and a medical certificate issued by a Government Medical Officer.
After successful verification, a system-generated offer of provisional engagement will be issued immediately. Candidates must then complete pre-engagement formalities, which include attending the prescribed basic training of three days and arranging accommodation for Branch Postmaster (BPM) posts, all within 30 days from the date of provisional offer.
