The Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Assam, has issued an official notification on 12th June 2025 inviting online applications for admission into the Veterinary Field Assistant (VFA) Training Course for the academic session 2024–25. This one-year training program, designed to provide basic knowledge in Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, will be held at the School of Veterinary Science & A.H., Ghungoor, Silchar, including its extended campuses across Assam.
Permanent residents of Assam who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online for the Personnel Assessment Test (PAT)—the selection exam for this course

Assam VFA Admission Eligibility
Educational Qualification: Applicants must have successfully completed HSSLC (Higher Secondary) in the Science stream, with Biology as a mandatory subject, from a recognized board or university.
Age Limit (as of 1st January 2025):
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 30 years
Age Relaxation:
- OBC/MOBC candidates: up to 3 years
- SC/ST (P)/ST (H) candidates: up to 5 years
Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens and permanent residents of Assam.
The department has not specified any minimum percentage or percentile requirement in the 12th (HSSLC) examination for eligibility. Candidates only need to have passed the exam in the Science stream with Biology as a compulsory subject.

Assam VFA Admission Selection Process
Admission to the one-year VFA Training Course is carried out as per a structured procedure sanctioned by the Government of Assam:
1. Evaluation and Weightage Criteria: After a detailed screening of the submitted applications, shortlisted candidates are invited to appear for the Personnel Assessment Test (PAT), which carries a total of 100 marks. The final score for selection is determined using the following distribution:
- 40% weightage from the percentage of marks obtained in HSSLC (Science stream with Biology)
- 20% weightage from the percentage of marks secured in HSLC
- 40% weightage from the PAT performance
2. PAT Examination Overview: The PAT will test knowledge in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and General Awareness related to both state and national affairs. Each candidate will be asked five questions, one by one, by a 2 to 3-member Selection Board. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks.
3. Merit List Compilation: The final merit list is prepared by combining scores from the above three components (HSLC, HSSLC, PAT). The list is published following the Government of Assam’s existing reservation guidelines.
